For adults, clowns become less of funny and more of annoying, and for some creepy or scary too.  An adult clown costume can keep it upbeat and amusing or take it down the path of the eerie.  When you become an adult, few things are ever just for laughs anymore, and these costumes embody that thought.

The Simpsons is one of the longest-running shows on primetime, and it is certainly something that only those of mature minds can fully enjoy. The Simpsons – Krusty The Clown Adult Costume takes from the eponymous character, a clown who has more than enough troubles of his own.  Of course, the character mask is in keeping with the character, having a bug-eyed face, red nose, wide laughing mouth and kooky blue-green hairdo.  The shirt is the traditional purple of the character, with a sky blue bowtie, while the sleeves of this costume are yellow like the skin of many Springfield inhabitants.  Of course, one can’t forget the classic white gloves.  Put this on and you can play the part of that crazy clown in one of his lighter moods.

Not all clowns are of the festive, colorful variety.  Some clowns are embodiments of misfortune, just fools in the whimsy of fate, a look that is incarnated by the Gigi the Pierrot Adult Costume.  Though the character Pierrot was originally a male, this costume is meant for the ladies.  It features a loose, white, low-cut bodice and comfy quarter pants in white as well.  The hem of the blouse is slit at regular intervals and inset with black-and-white checked cloth wedges, for accent.  The blouse also has three pompom accents, also in white and black.  Finally, the small pointy hat tops it off with a black and white taper and pompom.  This is a very comfortable getup, though it can seem rather simple.  Add a layer of complexity with some appropriate makeup and maybe a couple of clownish tricks.

Some people dislike clowns.  Some people downright hate them.  The Evil Clown Adult costume exaggerates the qualities that are construed as fearsome in clowns and caricaturizes the character. Starting from the bottom, he wears black and white striped socks and strangely-colored quarter pants with ragged hems.  The pants are strange in color because one side is a solid red while the other is a veritable rainbow of vertical stripes.  Moving up, he wears a green cummerbund with a decidedly evil looking clown belt buckle.  This clown is indeed laughing, but his teeth are pointed, and his brow is pulled down, creating something more like a leer or a darkly gleeful snarl.  The shirt is striped black and white, over which a coat goes.  The coat has polka dot lapels, cuffs, and pocket lips, with an attached flower with the same evil clown face in the middle.  Lastly, this costume includes a ¾ character mask with green hair and a very small bowler hat.  If this clown doesn’t scare you, it is doubtful any clown ever will.
